The Art In A Picture

People that get to see a picture rarely gets to realize the art form that most picture taking has turned itself into.  Rarely is a picture a product of just a simple press of the camera button.  The need to be as expressive yet still remain open to interpretations is what sets the best works from the many offerings that come about in any given field.  There is also the added effect of form and light that gets to combine with each viewer to bring on the best in terms of effects.

The mono-chrome print

Photographs were first introduced by being done in the black and white.  So using shades of white and grey became important in the field than with the luxury of colors.  This is where lightening that was specific to a situation come to good effect as well.

Today with the very advanced form that photography has taken, it still remains for the humble black and white prints to help most shooters acquire a level of skill exploiting the shades.  It is thus best advisable to start off serious photography with mono chrome prints and to move on from there after a due study.

The colored picture

When mentioning color to a photographer, it is complicated the different shades possible in each major color group as is the effect of light on each of this shade.  It is best to understand how to create the effects with the shades than to try and master the formation of the shades.  There is bound to be situations when an excess of analysis can lead to complete paralysis of action.

No doubt a careful study and understanding of a situation is necessary to bring about the perfect control and with it the best presentations.  But it must be stressed that technology must be used as an enabler than an end to itself.

Digital cameras

A look at taking snaps or pictures is simply not complete without a mention of the digital photography and the advent of digital cameras.  The field in effect got split wide open with the introduction of digital technologies that all but replaced the traditional film cameras.  Considering just the cost benefit alone, it is the quick learner that got to perform in photography in the old days without digital photography.  This is due to the exorbitant cost involved in buying and processing films for the cameras.

No longer is cost, both in terms of buying a good camera as well as the times that a shot has to be done to get it just correct, a factor in the education of a photographer.  Digital photography has introduced an element of affordability that is not seen in past applications in the field and it has really been ground breaking, so to speak.

What the future portends

If there has indeed been a discomforting aspect of photography, then it should be the use of the humble mobile phone to execute good snaps.  This is going to be the next frontier as far as photography is concerned and people in the field should take note rather than be caught off guard.

4 Tips To Help A Person Turn Photography Into A Business

photography tips

There is a big difference to pursuing an activity as a hobby or an interest than to try and make money out of it.  The increasing use of photos in different walks of life has brought into focus the all important role of the person taking the snap, the photographer, so to speak.  On display here is a set of skills that take some time and effort to perfect and that can bring in the most benefit to those that get to view a picture.

Identifying a style

It is generally accepted that there are different styles when it comes to taking a photograph.  This could typically be the manner in which light and its effects are used in the snap or some other telling factor.  All said it is the style that seeks to establish a photographer and it must be defined as early as possible in a photographer’s career.  Often it is hard to break a mould once it is set and care must be taken to allow the right label to be used in any photographer’s work.

The proper equipment

As with a skill based profession, photography needs to use the right equipment for the situation at hand.  When a style has been picked to express oneself, it is very important that the proper kit that allows the kind of snaps possible in the niche is had at all times.  Being an expensive passion, good pictures need the right kind of equipment no doubt and it is best not to try and save on this aspect as it could tell on the final product, which is the picture taken.

The right skills for the niche

Once a style of photography is chosen then it is important that the right types of skills are acquired for the situation.  Most good photographs do tend to mentor pupils and try to pass on their knowledge to them.  It would be a good idea to try and enroll with such persons in the chosen niche and in many instances it is not the cost but the willingness to learn that decides whether an expert like Glazier Brisbane Northside gets to choose a person as an understudy.

Typically most people can get to be skilled in a particular area if sufficient practice and patience is applied.  So in the initial stages of getting to understand and learn a style and area it is best to exercise patience to the best possible ability.

Recognizing the target audience

Having a good idea as to who the target audience would be is the correct approach to photography.  When the right presentation that would strike a chord is done, it is bound to bring in the most results both in terms of appreciation and more importantly as far as a professional is concerned, an assured income stream.  Most people would need to have the best result for any effort undertaken and this holds true in the case of professional photography as well.

The 5 Common Types Of Photography

It must be considered of photography that there exist some different versions of it.  Simply put, the photos need to be expressive in a different manner or often the focus is different in each case.  The conventional wisdom is that a picture can express a thousand words and each attempt at taking a snap must keep this need to be as expressive as possible on top of the mind.

The Aerial Shot

This is a method of photography that involves taking a picture from atop the subject.  It is the usual practice to take to aerial shots when in an airplane or some means of getting off the ground.  The best effects are had when a sense of floating over an area is brought to a picture.  Aerial photography is in many ways a recent introduction to the field and a style that has had a fair bit of success in the field as well.  Despite its late entry, the style has seen its use in a lot of applications especially in modern mapping and navigation systems.

Candid Photography

Here the attempt is to bring in a feel that is as natural as it could get without really brining out the fact that often a picture that is being taken.  This shot is really hard to execute when people are involved as it is often hard to disguise a camera from them.  Help could be taken in the zoom lens that can allow the photographer to be at a relative distance thus in effect not allowing the people in the shot know that they are being captured on camera.

Documentary Photography

When some fact or other needs to be brought to notice of the viewer, it is the most preferred method to use documentary photography.  The stress is on narration of a view or thought than the beauty aspect with this kind of a shot.  Often photo stories are narrated using documentary photography that allows a person to be as expressive with photographs as with any other medium.  It could be said that a photograph is one of the most expressive forms of presentation that is on call for the average documentary presenter.

Fashion Photography

In fashion photography, it is the need to be presentable no matter the subject and background available. The skills of a photographer are tested to the full in needing to be as sharp and as colorful in the expression of ideas.  Often people get to make purchase decisions based on appearances on a fashion photograph and thus this type of photography does call for a certain skill and an eye for the minutest of detail.

Food Photography

If indeed deceptions can be used to good effect, then it is in food photography.  The color of food can make it either appetizing or repulsive to the onlooker and this fact is taken to the very extreme by the typical photographer to bring in an effect and result that has to be experienced firsthand.  Using as natural as light as possible does help in the presentation and to bring about as natural a look as possible.

Photography and Perspective

Photography has always been a passion of mine, particularly conveying a particular perspective through my prized lens. So long as I have my camera, I get wrapped up in the moment, and each picture I take, no matter how many they are of the same object, tell a different story every time. It’s like magic, as if I’ve been placed in a new place altogether. No one can pull me out of this place.

People often believe in a set of rules, an expensive camera and a far-off place in order to take a good picture, but that’s not true. Good photography depends very much on perspective and how well it is being conveyed through that photograph. You can take good photos everywhere you go, so long as you tailor your camera to the light conditions of the situation and the perspective you wish to convey. Your photos can even go back in time, if you’d like it to.

You hear a lot about light, colour and focus from many professionals, which makes you worry that weather conditions prevent you from taking a good photo. But that’s untrue. Photography is a work of art you bring anywhere with you. It is possible to take a good photo, rain or shine. Going out onsite with my husband Eric’s company Tree Lopping Brisbane North, I’ve been able to take some great nature shots among trees, palms and wonderful landscapes. But rather than thinking of how good the photo must be and it’s location or framing, it’s worth trying to think of the perspective you are conveying with the photo. But you should practice and strengthen yourself with the basics of photography too.

We don’t need to leave the house, actually, to do this. Here are some indoor objects that we definitely have at home which will help us better understand the different camera effects before we venture out and take magnificent pictures:

  • Indoor flowers: Taking flowers in a vase allow us to play around with colour effects and the varying shades of white
  • Fire and candles: Photographing a flame allows us to experiment with the effects of varying exposure lengths and times on our cameras
  • Oil and water: You should be able to get a decent photo with macro lens and extension tubes by pouring water into two cups in a clear dish and sitting on a flat piece of colourful paper. Fun shapes should be created when you drop two or three drops of oil into the water
  • Food: Photographing food allows you to play with style, texture and distance
  • Window silhouettes: Put your camera in auto, and focus your subject in front of a glass door. Observe the changes when you shift your camera focus elsewhere

Remember that taking photos is about capturing the opportunity and potential of what an image could be. It gets better with practice and using what you have to create that perfect frame, and any amount of expensive equipment, no matter how hard you try, may not work out if you’re not using it at the right time.

Photography is art, in any sense, and conveys your unique personal perspective to everyone else. Once you think of it this way, it should be easy to leverage the right exposure, colour, as well as lens to capture the perfect moments and share it with everyone else.
